January 2017

What's New?

The month of January has just flown right by. I received my official yearly license about two weeks ago. To tell the truth I was pleasantly surprised to get it so quickly. This month we continued our winter maintenance, cleaned up the holiday decorations, and prepared ideas for the upcoming Valentine's Day activities. This is always a fun time planning on gifts and activities which reflect our thankfulness to our families, and encourage growth in our children. Such activities include expressing love, singing loving and caring songs, and exploring paint safely. All these lessons, and even more, have been designed to best support and engage our infants and school-aged children. We've especially enjoyed developing our mobility with our youngest attendee through walking support and even dancing!

Another area of growth has come with the beginning of my PAKeys STARS application and trainings. I look forward to completing all the necessary work this coming month, and becoming a STAR 1 facility.

Lastly, I am happy to report that our 3rd fire drill showed marked improvement in listening skills, following directions, and response time. I hope to have this area moving smoothly after the next few drills - so by April the children should have this down very well.

Shout-outs!

None this month.

Important Information:

February 20th, 2017 SCSD closed for President's Day - Kimberly's Child Care will be open.

Happy Birthdays!

None this month.

Expectations

Taxes will most likely be taking up a large chunk of my time this month, along with STARS training. I look forward to those being completed quickly. As far as lessons go - February marks the beginning of our garden project which will continue through the summer months. This project is particularly aimed at our school-aged children. We hope to report soon that our infant will be mobile, but in the mean-time we are celebrating his ability to sit on his own.

Reflection

As I reflect on the past month, my attention is focused primarily on continuing to improve the quality of care I am able to offer. I am proud of our facility as a daycare and as a home environment. I can't wait to become STARS certified because of the many more training opportunities and financial programs which we will then be able to participate in. I look forward to adding their technology to help supplement the lessons and activities I am already able to offer our families. Always moving forward! Thank you for being a part of our little support group. As always, please feel free to leave constructive advice and comments. Don't forget to spread the word so we can reach more families together!
